Having funds in a RutoWallet wallet does not automatically mean those funds are spendable through a virtual card.
The wallet balance and card balance are separate. Even after a user issues or purchases a virtual card, the card will not directly access the full wallet balance. To spend with the card, the user must first recharge or top up the card.
Wallet Balance and Card Balance
RutoWallet keeps wallet funds and card funds separate for security reasons.
This separation helps protect users by limiting card spending to the amount that has been intentionally added to the card. If a card is used without authorization or if card details are compromised, the card can only spend from its own available balance, not the user's full wallet balance.
When a new virtual card is issued, the card balance may be empty. The user must transfer funds from their RutoWallet wallet balance to the card before using it for payments.
How Card Recharge Works
To recharge a card, the user selects a supported token from their RutoWallet balance and chooses the amount they want to add to the card.
Because the virtual card balance is maintained in USD, the selected cryptocurrency is converted into USD during the recharge process.
For example, if a user wants to add $10 to their virtual card, they must recharge the card using a supported token amount equivalent to $10 at the displayed conversion rate.
Before confirming the recharge, RutoWallet will show the user the estimated amount of crypto required and the estimated USD amount that will be added to the card.
Confirming a Recharge
Before completing a card recharge, users should review:
- The selected card
- The selected token
- The amount to be deducted from the wallet
- The estimated USD amount to be added to the card
- Any applicable fees or conversion details
After the recharge is confirmed and processed successfully, the card balance will be updated.
Viewing Card Balance
Users can view the available balance of each virtual card from the Card section of the RutoWallet app or website.
The card balance shows how much money is currently available for spending through that specific card.
Important Notes
Wallet balance and card balance are not the same.
Users must recharge the card before they can spend with it. If the card balance is empty or lower than the payment amount, the transaction may be declined.
Only the amount added to the card can be spent through that card.
